Sydney to Brisbane (part 1)

Sydney Skyline

arriving by train at central station in Sydney i made my way into the depths of the famed city. i had all day to use before going to my hosts house that evening. so i got some lunch and went down to the botanical gardens near the opera house and harbor. i spent 3 nights staying with my Polish friend Daniel and his Iranian housemates (thanks again Daniel!).i had 4 great days in Sydney exploring the CBD and surrounding area. then on Thursday Jan, 24 i decided to get back on a train heading north to New Castle, crossed over the bay with the ferry service and rode up to Port Stephens. i spent the next couple days wild camping in some sand dunes on Samurai beach at Tomaree National Park.the beach was great for swimming although the sun was very strong during the day with not much available shade.

on Saturday Jan, 22 i carried onto Nelson Bay and caught the ferry across the bay to Tea Gardens. had some lunch and then connected with the Pacific highway to Booti Booti National Park where i did some wild camping on the shores of Lake Wallis. after setting up my tent i heard some music in the distance so i went over and found a party at a local watering hole. luckily they were serving food because i was famished after spending 6 plus hours on the bike. i ordered some food while enjoying a local band doing covers of American rock music and then went back to my tent hidden in the woods. the next day i rode 130 km to the lovely town of Port Macquarie and spent a rest day doing laundry, bike maintenance and relaxing on the beach. the next big destination is Byron Bay where i will stay until i fly out of Brisbane to Bali on Feb, 7th.
